Description: 9 fascicules in-8, agrafés, couvertures imprimées saumon.Très rare collection complète de cette gazette rédigée et éditée par Adrienne Monnier, une des grandes figures de la librairie ancienne, qui fut également écrivaine, poétesse, éditrice et organisatrice de soirées et rencontres littéraires. Cette gazette comporte 10 numéros (le sixième et le septième réunis dans la même plaquette) et parut de janvier 1938 à mai 1940. Le premier numéro est entièrement rédigé par Adrienne Monnier qui, après avoir expliqué comment lui est venue l'idée de cette publication, dresse une étonnante et passionnante fresque du marché du livre en 1938: analyse du péril qui menace le commerce du livre ( . Il est certain que depuis plusieurs années, le public n'achète pas ou presque pas de livres . ), des effets de la spéculation sur les éditions ( . La spéculation c'est quelqu'un qui avale à grandes bouchées sans mâcher et qui vomit presqu'aussitôt . Les valeurs les plus sûres s'effondrent quand elles sont devenues la proie des spéculateurs et il faut beaucoup de temps et d'adresse pour les remettre en état . ), de l'amour des Français pour la lecture ( . pour eux, un livre c'est un ami ou rien . ), des difficultés d'être libraire ( . Pour nous, libraires, nous n'avons presque plus rien à envier au libraire de Diderot. Ceux qui font, comme moi, non seulement la vente, mais le prêt des livres, s'en tirent tout juste . Cette étude de la crise de l'édition et de la librairie est prolongée en tête du second fascicule. Dans le troisième, le texte d'Adrienne Monnier est consacré à la guerre, thème principal de ses lectures et de ses réflexions. Il comporte une importante étude du livre de correspondance entre Einstein et Freud, Pourquoi le guerre? Le numéro 4 comporte la première partie des Réflexions sur l'élite. Le numéro 5 débute par A propos de l'antisémitisme. Dans le numéro 6-7 ont été regroupés la suite de Réflexions sur l'élite (dont la première partie figure dans le n°4), un Eloge du livre pauvre et la transcription d'une causerie faite à Radio-Paris en mai 1938 sur les amies des livres. Dans le numéro 8, Adrienne Monnier consacre de petits textes à Jean-Louis Barrault, Colette, Francis Bacon, à l'écrivaine argentine Victoria Ocampo, au Piéton de Paris de Léon Paul Fargue, au Journal de Gide, à la T.S.F. et à la revue Verve. Dans le numéro suivant, elle évoque ses Souvenirs de l'autre guerre et analyse de nombreuses ?uvres littéraires et parle de Paul Fort, Louis Aragon, Léon-Paul Fargue, Raymonde Linossier, Jules Romains (qu'elle appelle mon gourou), Paul Claudel, C.-F. Ramuz. Le numéro 10 transcrit une conférence donnée par Adrienne Monnier en mars 1931, intitulée L'Ulysse de Joyce et le public français. Etonnant ensemble de textes qui dévoilent les convictions et les analyses d'une femme remarquable, et qui constituent un témoignage exceptionnel sur certaines des grandes préoccupations de l'époque. Tirage non précisé, sauf pour le dernier volume qui a été imprimé à 2.120 exemplaires: 120 exemplaires numérotés (10 sur papier de Hollande, 30 sur pur fil Lafuma et 80 alfa) et 2.000 ordinaires non numérotés. Notre exemplaire fait partie des 2.000 ordinaires. Bel exemplaire malgré les petits accidents qui affectent le bords des couvertures imprimées sur un papier fin et fragile ainsi qu'un manque au centre du second plat de la couverture du n°2.
