The image for the cover and dust jacket were specifically designed by Pablo Picasso for this edition. It had been originally released as Verve #29/30 in French and English editions. Original frontispiece and Verve 29-30 cover reproduced in lithography following title page and imprint. Teriade, the publisher of Verve: "We have published this series of drawings in its entirety. They form an organic whole, born of a surging uprush of the creative spirit, and to have omitted any one of its elements would have been a mutilation. All the drawings are reproduced in the exact size of the originals and in the chronological order of their making." Picasso created them during a situation of personal and artistic crisis - and ended by producing one of his finest and boldest series of drawings. Color lithography by Mourlot and heliogravures by Draeger Freres. 12 of the 180 drawings are in color. The cover was designed by Picasso especially for this work. Dustjacket with major chips along spine and back cover, medium and small chips along edges of front cover; flaps mostly intact. Binding with light wear along edges, light chipping and scuffing along bottom edges. Inside cover gutters reinforced with pigeon blue cloth tape. Endpaper and title page lightly age-toned along edges.
