Price: US$1100.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: A rare copy of Volume 1, No. 1 of Verve magazine (published by E. Teriade in December, 1937). This copy impressively showcases the strengths of this modernist magazine with its unique editorial approach. It includes four lithographs inspired by the elements: "Water" by Fernand Leger; "Air" by Joan Miró; "Fire" by Rattner; and "Earth" by Borès. It features the writings of Roger Callois, René Huyghe, Georges Bataille, and André Malraux and a stunning reproduction of Picasso's "Guernica" as photographed by Dora Maar in his studio. On the cover--of both the magazine and the chamshell enclosure--is a drawing by Henri Matisse. The enclosure is damaged, with tears at each corner, but it still functions. The magazine itself is pristine, with barely any toning.
