The slightly toned end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions, There is a small booksellers sticker to the rear of the front board. The top edge fully retains its original red tint. There is some foxing to the fore and bottom edges. The clipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in very good condition with shelf wear to the top and bottom edge of the spine and darkening to the back cover. Will be despatched wrapped in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box.

Description: pp 242 An inscribed reprint by the bush-man of Cheyne Walk with an autograph letter from the book's dedicatee, his second wife, laid in. The author has inscribed the book to John and Diana Webel, apparently as a wedding gift', referring to it as 'something born of my own marriage in the same year'. Laid in is a later letter from 1979 which is an effusive thank you note from Ingaret Van Der Post sent in gratitude for the return of a 'white coat', left behind at a signing event: 'I so enjoyed my husband's "signing books" lunch and I meet so many interesting people that I quite forgot my old coat.' Description: A very well preserved first edition of this work of travel writing. With a black and white portrait frontispiece. Laurens Jan van der Post, (13 December 1906 16 December 1996) was a 20th-century Afrikaner author, farmer, war hero, political adviser to British heads of government, close friend of Prince Charles, godfather of Prince William, educator, journalist, humanitarian, philosopher, explorer and conservationist. In a blue cloth binding with gilt title detailing to the spine, and a clipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. Minor shelfwear only. A little bumping to the extremities and slight fading to the spine. The dust wrapper has been preserved in a plastic cover and reinforced with tape in places. A few closed tears and a little loss to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with only a handling mark to the rear pastedown. Near Fine
