Previous owner's bookplate and date stamp on front fixed endpaper. Bookplate ghost on opposite page. Small piece out of volume 1 spine label.

Contains 20 tipped-in color reproductions of watercolors of Venice by Edmund H. Garrett. Although the colophon states "signed by the author, the artist and the publishers," this copy is signed only by Howells and the publishers. Bound in cloth-backed blue boards with leather spine labels, another departure from other copies, which are bound in patterned paste-paper boards. Small bump to one edge, and owner's name whited-out to ffeps, otherwise an immaculate copy, with the pages unopened. Clear plastic jackets.
