A satisfactory, though by no means stellar, copy. 430 grams.

Description: 317pp. Duodecimo [20 cm] Blue cloth with a gilt stamped title and 6 decorative gilt ruled borders on the spine. Decorative blind stamping to boards. Frontispiece portrait of Joseph Smith in profile. Title page vignette of Mormon coins in Utah. Very good minus. The extremities are rubbed, and the spine is darkened (gilt still bright). There are a couple of 1" closed tears in the top margins of the front free endsheet and flyleaf, the endsheets are discolored, and the pages are age-toned. Important and valuable early firsthand account of life in Mormon Utah during its first decade by an objective observer. Ferris was appointed the territorial secretary of Utah in 1852-53, a position he held for six months. He subsequently moved to California and wrote this account of his time among the Mormons.
