Description: Hardover (7 1/2' x 9 1/2") in color illustrated paper covered boards over buff cloth spine lettered in green. Illustrated endpapers. 55 pp. Illustrated in color by Greenaway. No date, circa 1900 so the third publication (first was Routledge in 1878 in the UK and the following year in the US by McLoughlin). Printers information facing the final page of text reads "Engrved and Printed by Edmund Evans, Ltd., Rose place, Globe Road, London, E.I 599.152". Very good, wear at the tips and along the edges of the boards. Internally clean and pleasing.

Description: A charming work for children by Victorian illustrator Kate Greenaway, a colouring book intended to be painted in watercolours. A charming colouring book by Kate Greenaway, produced for children to paint their pages.Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, thirteen colour illustrations, and monochrome illustrations.A clean copy with only two of the illustrations having been hand-painted by a prior owner.Greenaway was a Victorian artist, well beloved for her children's book illustrations, produced in the Golden Age of book illustration. Most of her drawings depiction Queen Anne style costume, an imaginary eighteenth century style rather than Victorian.The second Warne edition, with the follow issue points as per 'Printed Kate Greenaway: A Catalogue Raisonne'. The titles advertised to the rear board are 'Under the Window', 'Marigola Garden', 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin', 'Little Ann and Other Poems', and 'Kate Greenaway's Birthday Book'. The publisher's New York address is listed as 12 East 33rd Street, without LTD in the imprint. Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the original publisher's paper covered boards. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the spine and extremities. Ink note to the front board. Light marks to the boards. Discolouration to the vignette to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few spots. Two illustrations have been hand-painted by a prior owner. Very Good

Good solid binding, very clean text throughout. First Warne edition, without 'Ltd.' on the title page. This edition contains 44 poems, 6 less than the first edition. (Schuster and Engen 201 3a). Front and rear boards: title and author, printed in red and black on a green ground; surrounded by a procession of children printed in beige and shaded with pale pink on a brown ground; border is printed in green. A very good copy that shows light rubbing at the boards and spine ends, slight wear at the corners. Tear with loss of lower corner at ffep., and prelims., not affecting text. Internally clean and bright. Binding slightly shaken. (The title-page is clearly imprinted by Warne & Co.; however, internally this copy agrees with Schuster and Engen 201.1b).
