Description: Very good book, later, possibly 4th printing. Features of this edition include: A map of Marquesas Islands facing the title page; a period after "Street" for the publisher's address on the title page; 307 pp. followed by one page of "Now Publishing by Wiley & Putnam, Library of American Books listing dated March, 1846; followed by 9 pages of Publishers' Advertisement devoted to "Typee." Original cloth covered boards with blind-stamped decorations on front and back panel and blind-stamped spine with gilt text. Boards are soiled, spine is sunned. Edges at head and tail of board spine are chipped and fraying. Boards are rubbed through in one area along the front fore-edge, several places along the lower edges of front and back board and all fore-edge corners to some degree. Outside page edges are darkened. Paste-downs and end papers have paste transfer markings. Foxing and stains on internal pages, mostly around the margins. Several quires are loose. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition description. Additional photos available at your request.
