Neat contemporary owner gift inscription on half-title, binding slightly cocked with moderate wear at base of spine and bottom corners, very good in an about good only dust jacket with the middle of the spine roughly excised, nicks and tears at the edges, moderate rubbing and soiling, and heavy interior tape repairs. Lofting took a break from his *Doctor Dolittle* series to write this medieval fantasy that takes place in an age when magic is dying and science beginning.

Publisher's purple cloth with pictorial paper onlay on upper board, and paper spine label. Spine cocked, page edge soiled, else nearly fine and bright. Illustrated jacket which matches the endpapers has some shallow chipping at spine ends, corners, and along folds. Spine a bit sunned, and rear panel soiled, else a very good example.
