Description: Front inner hinge is mostly cracked. Book is very slightly cocked. Covers have slight wear to the top spine end and very slight wear to the outer corners and bottom spine end. Slight foxing to the frontis, title page, and the glassine interleave. Owner's name and date written on the title page. Three Stevenson quotations have been transcribed to blank areas prior to the table of contents.

Description: Hardcover. Bound in brown cloth with gold lettering on the cover and spine, with black rectangles and decoration, and a gold donkey on the front cover. Binding nice and clean and attractive. Brown endpapers. Frontispiece illustration with tissue guard - guard has a couple spots of foxing, the ghosts of which have transferred to the title page itself. Title page dated 1879. No date on the copyright page. 235 pages + 20 pages of advertisements for No Name Series, also published by Roberts. Stevenson was still in his 20s when he wrote this account of his 12 day hiking and camping journey. This was his first book. His great success with Treasure Island was still several years away. This is the first American edition; it was published earlier in the same year in a British edition. Quite a nice clean copy. Please email with questions or to request photos.
