Original endpapers with a 20th century bookplate on the front pastedown. 36 engraved illustrations, some full-page. Folding map. A very clean, tight copy. AB 19424. Whymper was an artist working on the Western Union Telegraph expedition of 1865-66. First five chapters deal with his travels in British Columbia, including Vancouver Island in 1864. Remainder covers his voyage to Sitka, Petropavlovsk, Chukotka, St. Michael, and up the Yukon River to and beyond Fort Yukon. There is an American edition a year later. This UK edition is much scarcer and of superior quality.
