This Macmillan Colonial Library edition was also released that year. It is a satirical, humerous look at the rise of rampant capitalism and "get-rich-quick" schemes. Often considered as Wells' best work of fiction. 493 pages, followed by eight pages of titles in the prolific Colonial Library series which had then reached 552. Deep blue hard covers with gilt front spine titles , with embossed front decoration VG+ with tiny notches upper/lower front edges, probably from package binding, neatly inked name to FFEP, which is browned, small dealer stamp lower left, RFEP similarly browned, text block otherwise tight and excellent. Isolated foxing spots vertical page edges,

The binding is tight with light wear to the edges with sunning and a slight lean to the spine. Housed in a contemporary custom green cloth dustwrapper (I doubt it s a publisher s wrapper, though a few early Wells titles have surfaced in cloth wrappers from publishers) with a slightly worn red leather label. A previous owner has tooled First Edition 1909 in gilt at the bottom of the wrapper spine and has Joyce Portrait written in faded black ink on wrapper spine. A very good copy of a rare unique item.
