One of the Great American Novels. The story is told in the first person using vernacular English of the era and region. Huck finds that being "civilized" is confining and escapes from his guardian with the help of his friend, Tom Sawyer. Circumstances reunite him with his shiftless father, "Pap" and Huck finds himself under Pap's custody and leaves town with him only to face more unknown adventures.
