Condition: Very Good

Description: 8vo, hardback. pp. 129. Translated from Russian by Virginia Woolf and Samuel Koteliansky, this volume collects Tolstoi's love letters written to his fiance in addition to a preface and commentary, each written by Paul Biryakov. The latter half of the book comprises a critical study in which Biryakov compares Tolstoy, as presented in the letters, to the romantic heroes of Tolstoy's writing. Considered an important work for those interested in both Lev Tolstoi specifically and Russian literature in general. Published by The Hogarth Press, founded by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. Item in very good condition for its age, though with some age-related minor faults. Original binding is in very good condition, despite some nicks to the borders and a small tear found on the spine. Pages are also very good with minimal signs of foxing.
