Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. O'Connor provides a title page decoration and nine quite magnificent header piece engravings, each of which is accompanied by a loose tissue protector. The morocco lightly toned and soiled, with just a touch of wear to several corner tips. A little spotting to the fore edge, very occasionally encroaching to the extreme fore edges of a few text leaves. Very good indeed. Lacking the original unprinted glassine wrapper, but with a fresh sheet of protective acetate supplied. One of the earlier O'Connor appearances, eight years after his bookform debut, these magnificent engravings were produced whilst he was serving with the RAF "in arctic cold in a Nissen hut, in the intervals between operational flights".
