First edition. Very good condition. Dust jacket in protective mylar, shelf wear at corners with chipping in corners and head and foot at spine, shelf wear to spine with mild soiling and scuffing. Good condition. Illustrated with 67 photographs and three maps, includes large folding map in the rear. Theodore Hubback was an English engineer, conservationist, and author. Here he recounts his adventures hunting in Western Alaska. "In his younger days a keen hunter, he came to be remembered as an ardent conservationist in his later years. He was a prolific author both on hunting big game and later on conservation" (The AB Hubback Project).

Description: BOOK DESCRIPTION: 8vo, xiv, 232 pgs, plus 4 pgs of publisher's advertising; index, 60 photo illustrations, two text maps, and folding map in rear pocket. Zebra-skin printed endpapers. Decorative cover with gold gilt title, author and caribou game head; the spine is similarly gilt stamped, but with a gilt sheep head. A VERY FINE, BRIGHT COPY IN THE VERY SCARCE DJ, which is complete and with minimal wear; now in mylar sleeve. Photos available le upon request. Interior is very clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Part one describes a 1918 hunt on the Kenai Peninsula for moose and sheep. The second part describes a 1921 includes brown bear hunting in the Kenai and an additional hunt into the for moose, sheep and caribou in the Susitna-Kuskokwin country. Well illustrated with 60 photographs taken in the field. The folding map is in fine condition and very detailed. Hubback is a very good writer and clearly describes these early Alaskan hunts. He describes the thrill of the chase, as well as the difficulty in getting into the remote and uncharted territory in the Alaskan Range near Rainy Pass. Based on notes he kept at the time, its detailed and descriptive. His hunting guide for both hunts was Andy Simons, to whom Hubback gives great credit for their success. A great tale of adventure with the background of pioneer Alaska always present.

A fine, bright copy with only a trace of foxing on the upper edge of the textblock and the title and dedication pages. The scarce dustwrapper has a tiny nick at the base of the spine else it is in fine condition as well. .
