Original pale green cltoh prettily decorated with an art noveau design of a crouching angel enclosed by a serpent border. Illustrated with "twelve fairy fancies by Gertrude Thompson", which consist of fine fairy engravings. First edition thus and scarce, more available editions being later impressions. Although a good portion of this book appeared first in "Phantasmagoria", five new pieces are added here. Two originate from "Sylvie and Bruno", one is dran from the journal "Jabberwock" of 1888 and two are acrostic poems which had been presented to child friends of Dodgson. Gerald Walter Erskine Loder, 1st Baron Wakehurst, 1861-1936 was a British barrister, businessman and Conservative politician. He is best remembered for developing the gardens at Wakehurst Place, Sussex. He was also the founder of Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden and an energetic plant collector. Along with Alfred Coates, his Head Gardener, he laid down the framework for the amazing Living Collection that lies in the heart of Sussex. Book is very good and bright. Light edge rubbing.
