Description: 1854. No edition remarks. 325 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering and blind stamping. Black and white frontispiece. Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout, moderate at end-papers, paste-downs and text-block edges. Binding remains reasonably firm. Minor pencil marking to front paste-down. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Small splits to head of spine.

Description: 4 volumes, 8vo; steel-engraved frontispiece and bookplate on front paste-down in each volume, some toning on endpapers; extremities lightly rubbed, else a very good set in contemporary half calf over marbled boards, black morocco gilt-lettered labels on spine with raised bands. From the library of Mr. Curtis Hussey Pettit ('C.H'), a Minnesota legislator and prominent bussiness man (lumber and flour milling) in the mid-1800's. The bookplate on volume 1 is a photograph of the Pettit residence in Minneapolis, along with his daughter's annotations.
