Description: No date app. 1840. Early edition of one of the most widely celebrated classics of the English language, thick 8 vo, pp. xiv, [2], 609 ., cloth. With Fourty-three Illustrations By R.Seymour And "Phiz".Engraved frontispiece and title-page , and 41 engraved plates by R. Seymour and H.K. Browne with the footnote on p.9, but without the 2 suppressed Buss plates which were replaced in later issues by those designed and etched by Phiz. The first issue copies had not have footnotes. Engraving No.11: Mr. Wardle and his friends (p.76) and Engraving No.17: The unexpected breaking up (p. 168) are not present in the first issue, and are present in this copy. Later cloth binding, a near fine ex library copy.
