Description: Oxford: Thomas Tegg, 1840. Good/No Jacket. This is volume III of the Novels and Miscellaneous Works, but complete in itself. Book in good condition in a half-leather red binding, cloth to boards. With some wear and rubbing, especially to corners and head and tail of spine. Boards holding firm with no splitting to joints. Internally clean, bookplates to front endpapers, endpapers to front inner hinge just starting, binding is tight. 345 pages.

Spines with raised bands and floral gilt tooling in compartments, red buckram boards and top edges gilt. Volume one illustrated with an engraved portrait. A attractive set bound by a leading binder - in excellent condition. With the red leather bookplate of W. A. Foyle. Daniel Defoe was an English novelist, journalist, merchant, pamphleteer and spy. He is most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe, first published in 1719.

Steel-engraved portrait frontispiece of the author, with tissue guard, in first volume. Calling card in first volume inscribed "The first of the great English journalists. From Deborah". Spines sunned to pale brown, couple of corners bumped, occasional spots to contents but largely clean. A near-fine set.
