John Muir (1838-1914) also known as "John of the Mountains" and "Father of the National Parks", was an influential Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher, botanist, zoologist, glaciologist, and early advocate for the preservation of wilderness in the United States of America. A friend and confidante of President Theodore Roosevelt, Muir is credited with the creation of the National Park System and was the founder of the Sierra Club. The slightly earlier, limited, "Manuscript Edition" was published in 1916.
