Framley Parsonage is the fourth novel in the author's series known as the Chroncles of Basetshire. It was first published in serial form in the Cornhill Magazine in 1860, then in book form in 1861. The hero is a young clergyman in the fictional Barsetshire. We follow his career and his ambitions. He is the creature of the lady of the manor, who gave him the job (the 'living in the strange system of the English church of the time). He is amiable but naive and overly ambitious young clergyman with drastic misjudgments. Through its shrewd and excellent social comedy and subtle, sometimes wicked, grasp of political and ecclesiastical maneuvering, Trollope brings a whole local universe to convincing and triumphant life.
