Description: Norfolk, CT: New Directions, 1939. A VG+ copy of Thomas's first book published in the U.S., in a letterpress limited edition of 700 copies. This binding has ten lightly faded gilt stars, five stars on each side of the poet's name on the spine. There are no internal markings other than former owner's name and date. Printed at the Walpole Printing Office. Lacking the dust wrapper. Includes selections from Thomas's first three books (18 Poems, 1934; Twenty-Five Poems, 1936; and The Map of Love, 1939) plus 11 short prose pieces. From the personal library of respected Russian-American scholar and Smith College professor Helen Muchnic (1903-2000).

Dust jacket has 1 large chip at the bottom of the front panel, not affecting any printing & a couple tears. Still, uncommon in jacket.

Description: Near fine book in very good- dust jacket. First edition, first issue, with only star to each side of author's name on spine. No markings. Pages clean and slightly toned. Boards are clean with slight darkening along top edge. Dust jacket is chipped to spine ends and to corners as well as 1" area of chipping mid-fold on front panel. Still presents very nicely.

Description: Norfolk, CT: New Directions Press.  (1939). 1st edition, with two stars on spine. 1 of 700 copies. Hardcover with dust jacket.  Book in very good condition. Boards clean but  pages edges soiled. Internally, end-papers age toned with a previous owners name inked to inside front board. Several pages (7, 10 & 53) have very faint, penciled notes to margins and pages 66/67 have darkened from a paper left in to long; otherwise pages clean.  The binding is tight and  hinges intact. The dust jacket is in fair condition, still in one piece, but well worn, chipped and torn at edges and seams.

Description: The true first edition. The book is fine in all respects. The jacket has edgewear at both spine ends, the top right corner of the front panel and again the top left corner on the rear panel. This copy is signed by Thomas at the front free endpaper. The book's spine shows one star only on either side of the title. Colophon at rear states this is from a limited edition of 700 un-numbered copies. One of the scarcest of all Thomas titles. This book comes in a custom made 1/4 leather drop back box that is very lovely. Rolph, B5, p46. Fine / Very Good.
