Description: 24 volumes as issued plus one additional volume. 8vo., 7 x 4.25 inches. Spine and upper boards stamped gilt. Preserved within a custom made cloth box. Bound in original buckram cloth with the gilt spines bright and in excellent condition, and rather rare thus. Single issues of this set are fairly often encountered and often much read. It is really unusual to find a complete set in such very good condition. Starting in 1926 the collected thin paper edition ceased publication in 1927 after 24 volumes were issued. Ernest Benn continued using the binding format without the thin paper, and issued further editions of Wells' novels - they are notably fatter due to the standard paper thickness being used. An additonal volume to this set is Joan and Peter which is extra to the collected edition, and one of Wells' novels published later.
