Description: The lettering on the spine is very faded and just legible but otherwise the boards have one small chip to the centre of the front panel and a little light surface wear and edge rubbing. The page edges are browned. Light browning to the endpapers with a gift message in ink to the front free end paper. The pages are slightly browned but otherwise clean and unmarked. First printing. No jacket.

Description: 8vo, each volume uniformly bound in blind-ruled green cloth stamped in gilt. t.e.g. One of a limited edition of 1000 copies, five hunderd of which were for sale in the UK and 500 in the U.S., all signed by Machen in the first volume. Though not noted as such, from the library of the poet Gerrit Lansing. There is a brief but beautiful anecdote about a discussion about Machen in Iain Sinclair's book American Smoke. A beautiful set from a writer whose work continues to fascinate and influence with each generation. A near fine set, with some minor dulling to spine and gilt, occasional lifting here and there on the clothe, some light rubbing to spines, and offsetting to each volume at the first blank.
