Description: First UK edition of the author's first regularly published book (it was preceded by several days by the US edition, an issue which did not contain Lane's bibliography). 8vo. 178pp + xvi publisher's catalogue. Crown 8vo. Red cloth with paper a spine label and two more tipped-in at the rear, as required. Cloth a little faded at the backstrip and bruised at the spine ends. Some browning to the endpapers and just a touch of spotting to the half-title and title page. A very good copy. Seven essays, all previously printed in assorted periodicals, often under different titles, with one of them ('Dandies and Dandies') here revised and enlarged; issued alongside the first printing of John Lane's bibliography of early Beerbohm appearances.
