Clean, scuffed covers and spine; .5 x .75 paper lift on front cover where cloth meets paper; small scraped paper lifts on back cover; rubbed at spine ends with small splits at tail; rubbed through paper at cover edges and fore corners; bookplate ghost on front free end paper; small label ghosts on pastedowns; small area of damp stain at text block top fore corner affects approx 50 pp, text not affected; tightly bound; clean interior. 16mo, 364pp + 4 pp adverts.

Description: New York: Harper & Brothers, 1887. This is a Very Good copy of an early, Later Printing of the First Edition. Brown marbled paper-covered boards with a blue cloth spine titled in gilt (the publisher's same binding as the first issue). Clean text; 364 pages, with four pages of publisher's adverts in the rear (containing Haggard's "She," "Jess," and "King Solomon's Mines" - which were published 1885-1887). Neat contemporary signature on the FFEP. Mildly toned. A solid copy; the only defect is rubbing to all margins. Despite this, the book presents very nicely. In an archival plastic protector. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
