Illustrated with 94 wood engravings in black and 48 in colour, all but a few printed from the original blocks. Quarter red buckram with gilt spine titling, decorative paper sides after an engraving by the artist, top edge trimmed, others uncut. A fine copy in its slipcase.

A most attractively produced small catalogue issued for An Exhibition of the Work of Nine Artists Working for the Whittington Press, Held at the Fiery Beacon Gallery, 2-17 December '89 which has a short text about each artist and his or her work for the Whittigton Press and a representative illustration. In addition to the seven living artists who signed the special copies, the others included are Richard Kennedy and Hellmuth Weissenborn.The artists featured, with the kind and number of their illustrations, are : John Craig (wood-engraving); Brian Hanscomb (copper-engraving); Richard Kennedy (drawing) Miriam Macgregor (wood-engraving) ; Gwenda Morgan (two wood-engravings) ; John O'Connor (wood-engraving); Howard Phipps (wood-engraving); Judith Verity (linocut); Hellmuth Weissenborn (two wood-engravings). The illustrations are all reproduced by line-blocks, except the linocut and the two wood-engravings by Hellmuth Weissenborn. Description: 82pp. Five sections of commentary (by Jeannie O'Connor) and wood-engravings by John O'Connor, based on five decades of the artist's working life. A limited edition of 350 copies printed on Tosa Butten and Zerkall mould-made paper, including fifty special editions. This is special edition #49 and is SIGNED on the colophon by both Jean and John O'Connor. Quarter-bound with brown Nigerian Goatskin and gilt lettering on the spine. Floral decorated covered boards. Light orange end papers, which is also used to cover the slip case. Red and yellow sewn headbands. Numerous illustrations throughout including a full-page wood-engraving as a frontispiece (Lancashire Girl, 1945). The portfolio of eight additional prints (all initialed by the artist) unfortunately has some deficits. Two of the engravings, the coloured copy of the frontispiece and a b/w copy of the floral front cover of the book, have some light foxing to the margins. (These two prints are now protected in a large archival envelope). Three other b/w prints have a faint spot or two on the left hand margin. The remaining three prints are clean. The orange paper covered folder is in fine condition. The book and the portfolio are enclosed within a russet cloth edged slip case, with just some slight shelf wear. Otherwise all in fine condition. Extra photos can be provided if required.
