Price: US$7.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Hardcover edition with dust jacket, published by Knopf, 1984. This is a book club edition from 1984. The dust jacket is intact and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. This is the edition with the iconic Albrecht Durer etching on the front cover. The jacket cover had been taped to the boards with thin strips of masking tape - the tape is still attached to the front board - they are missing from the back board but have left residue from the adhesive on the the boards. Jacket just shows some edge wear creases to the head and heel of the spine and at the tips of the corners, and a small closed tear of about 1/8 inch at the top edge of the back panel. Purple colored cloth covered boards show some fading along the edges, but no edge wear. The greenish-blue topstain shows fading. Rough edged text block shows foxing spots. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. This is not a remainder, not a library discard. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.

Boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The dustjacket shows a nickel-sized, triangular tear in the jacket's lamination on the lower edge of the back panel, o/w no other significant damage; no tears, no creasing or chipping, not price-clipped. Description: A fine first edition copy of John Updike's well-known pro-feminist novel, The Witches of Eastwick. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. John Updike (1932-2009) was an American writer and critic. He described this novel as "about female power, a power that patriarchal societies have denied." The story follows three witches in the Rhode Island town of Eastwick in the early 1970s, as the arrival of Darryl Van Horne upsets their coven. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very bright and smart, though a little bumped to the extremities of the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Dust wrapper is a little sunned to the spine, with creasing to the head and tail of the spine, and a small loss to the upper extremity of the front of the wrap. Otherwise, the dust wrapper is mostly bright and smart. Fine
