Description: xii, 159 p. Green cloth hardcover has ring mark on front board, minor discolouration. Ink marks on Acknowledgments page. Minor soiling within. The only volume of poetry that Lucy Maud Montgomery produced. This was her first work published by Canadian publisher McClelland, Goodchild and Stewart, and she was probably attracted to them because of their willingness to issue a collection of her poems. M.G.&S. may have agreed to publish this book as a way of luring her away from her Boston publisher, who had refused even to consider this project. All these poems were previously published in magazines.

Price: US$3500.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: The first of Montgomery's books to be published by a Canadian publisher, this is one of her most sought-after titles, rarely found in a dust jacket, even one as weary as this specimen (oddly, it is easier to find a signed copy than one with a jacket). Collects more than 90 poems by the author of 'Anne of Green Gables,' most of which were published in almost two dozen Canadian and American magazines. Green cloth w/gilt cover/spine lettering, 159 [1] pages. Bumped corners, light edgewear, gilt almost entirely flaked from spine, about a third flaked from front cover, previous owner's name to front end paper, dust/lightly tanned edges. The jacket is in two pieces (separated at left front panel/right spine edge), w/rubbing, chipping/tears to corners, short edge tears, 2" tear to top of rear panel, sun-darkened spine, 1"-deep chip to top spine, remains of presumed Christmas gift sticker to spine. There are 10 scans of book and jacket, showing flaws, available on my site. Size: Small octavo
