Condition: Very Good

Description: The First UK printing published by Bodley Head in 1952.English translation by Norman Dale. The BOOK is in VERY GOOD condition.Boards are clean and the black titling remains bright.A little fading to the spine tips.Text block and page edges browned due to the cheap quality of paper used.Mild spotting to the end papers.Small bookseller sticker to the lower front pastedown.Attractive previous owner's bookplate (Sir Ivan Power Bart) to the front blank end paper. The fragile paper WRAPPER is in just about VERY GOOD condition. It show signs of edge wear with loss in places (see photos).Closed tears to upper and lower rear flap fold and also to upper front cover. Some rubbing to spine folds and rear photo cover in places.Spine colouring faded. For all of this however, the iconic wrapper design still looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival protector. For some reason this title is also accompanied by a second impression wrapper which would be in near fine condition if it were not for a chip to the lower rear cover. The basis for the cult classic movie adaptation 'French-Italian thriller Wages of Fear' of 1953 directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, starring Yves Montand.A very scarce title to find as a true First UK edition.Only the first copy we have handled in over ten years. ashtonrarebooks welcomes direct contact.More images available on request.
