Amusing front cover illustration features the "dog-captain" steering the ship while two sailors gaze on in amazement. Small figures explore Arctic ice on spine. Mylar wrap removed for photos. Small tears in spine ends, some shelf wear to edges. Front hinge repaired. Dampstains to margins of first pages. Ink inscription on a front leaf. Pages 45-47 loosening with roughened edges. Plate across from p. 152, as well as pp. 153-162, loosening. Verne's classic polar adventure with two parts, originally published separately, in one volume: The English at the North Pole; The Desert of Ice. Taves & Michaluk V004. Myers 58.

Description: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bound in brick-coloured pictorial cloth with black and gilt decorations to front board and spine. Black and white illustrations throughout. Some shelfwear to outer corners and to head and heel of spine. Spine somewhat darkened. Lower page edges show minute trace of damp staining, darkening to tail edge at spine. Also minor damp staining to upper outside corners of prelims and endpages. Damp stains do not affect text. Faint foxing to first and last few pages. Previous ownership inscription to front blank.
