Bumped corners and spine ends. Darkened and rubbed spine colour and spot of red is missing on the lower end. Very lightly weak hinge. Small book plate on the front paste down. Address of a previous owner written on the front free page dated June 25th 1915. Light spotting on the front pages and on page ends a little. 6pp of publishers adverts at the end.

The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is loosely based on the Molly Maguires and Pinkerton agent James McParland. The story was first published in the Strand Magazine between September 1914 and May 1915. The first book edition was copyrighted in 1914, and it was first published by George H. Doran Company in New York on 27 February 1915, and illustrated by Arthur I. Keller.

Black and white frontispiece. Top edge a bit dusty. A touch of light foxing on the preliminary pages otherwise a clean far superior copy to most. Housed in a nice slipcase. The fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel, initially published in Strand Magazine from September 1914 to May 1915. It has been adapted into several TV shows and films throughout the decades. Frontispiece by Frank Wiles, and with 6 pp. of publisher's advertisements at end. First UK edition, first impression and published on 3 June 1915, the UK edition was preceded by the US edition, which was released on 27 February of the same year. It is, however, far less common, with some 6000 copies issued in Britain. Greene & Gibson A39a. It is difficult to find a nice copy like this example.

Hinges a little weak in places. 6 pages of advertisments.
