Description: This rare stunning copy is bound in full blue morocco with raised bands to six compartments with the title to the second and bright gilt decoration to the rest, there are bright gilt floral borders to both upper and lower boards with gilt dentelles to the inner edge, marbled endpapers and paste downs and gilt page edges all round. There are silk head and tailbands. There is some spotting to the bages, typical in this edition.tight, bright and square. The plates by Birkett Foster and H. N. Humphrys have been printed in colour by Edmund Evans. A dust wrapper is not called for. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased charges will be quoted. Oliver Goldsmith was an Anglo-Irish writer and poet, who is best known for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766), his pastoral poem The Deserted Village (1770), and his plays The Good-Natur'd Man (1768) and She Stoops to Conquer (1771, first performed in 1773). He also wrote An History of the Earth and Animated Nature. He is thought to have written the classic children's tale The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes, the source of the phrase "goody two-shoes". Description: 1860. No edition remarks. 448 pages. No dust jacket. Half bound green leather with green cloth covered boards and gilt lettering to spine. Vol II in the series, stated on p1. Black and white illustrated plates by Birket Foster. Gilt edges to textblock. 'Mayence to the Lake of Constance'. Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Binding remains firm. Slight marks to gutters. Boards have heavy wear with bumped and abraded corners. Spine ends similarly worn and spine itself strongly scuffed. Gilt dulled. Board surfaces scratched and rubbed. Slight water staining and surface bleaching.

Bound by Bayntun, of Bath, England. Half gilt-stamped leather and green cloth over boards, 5 raised bands, gilt text block, marbled end papers, (xv), 448 pages, illustrated with several steel-engravings from drawings by Birket Foster as well as some smaller black and white images. Some spots on covers, small scuff marks on leather at bottom, covers very slightly bowed, toning on end papers, some foxing on title page, small damp stain at bottom edge of some pages, lacks the Oppenheim steel engraving, Schauffhausen engraving faces page 285 instead of 299, some offsetting on pages facing engravings, barely noticeable light scattered foxing throughout, overall very good and highly readable.
