Original illustrated hard cloth cover, small split at the head of the spine where it joins the lower board, tips or corners bumped. Original yellow end-papers with neat ownership sig in ink, dated 1899. Also book-plate affixed inside the front cover. Block somewhat shaken up, still totally secure. A VG copy.

Description: Introductory preface by Harriet Beecher Stowe. 14 plates, including folding facsimile. xii, 404pp. 12mo, original decorated cloth, spine ends and edges of corners lightly worn, cloth lightly soiled. London: Sampson Low, 1888. The author and her husband were Mormon missionaries in Europe who emigrated to Salt Lake City in 1855. In 1870, Fanny and Thomas Stenhouse became followers of William S. Godbe, a critic of Brigham Young. The Stenhouses were against polygamy and were excommunicated from the LDS Church.
