Description: 1868 edition, dark green cloth cover with blindstamped decorative border and central picture frame gilt illustration to front with title, portrait, balloons and flags, amongst others, headed by 'Africa to Gt. Britain'. 268 pages, illustrated with 5 woodcuts by George Cruikshank and 22 engraved plates. Hand coloured portrait of the Baron as frontispiece. Condition: Spine cracked and front hinge strengthened by green cloth glued to existing, partially covering spine – a poor repair. O/w cover a little rubbed and edge-worn, corners bumped. Brown endpapers dampstained and tissue guard to frontispiece stained. Light foxing throughout, mainly to page margins, not affecting ilustrations. Light toning to pages o/w clean and unmarked. Overall good condition. Previous owners' inscription, bookplate and stamp to ffep and half-title page. Weight: 0.57kg - Overseas orders may require additional postage.

Description: Octavo, original brown cloth decorated in gold, black & blind, brown coated endpapers. 268 pp + 4 pp publisher's catalogue 'Mr. William Tegg's Catalogue of Popular Works; London, Pancras Lane, Cheapside" bound in at the rear. With a hand-coloured frontispiece and five small woodcuts by George Cruikshank in addition to twenty three extremely curious full-page engravings. Cloth worn at the corners with inner boards showing; lightly rubbed but clean and sound, the hinges tight, a nice copy. Uncommon. The fantastical adventures of the mysterious Baron Munchausen. This appears to be the first edition issued by tegg (it was reprinted often); the plates have the imprint "London: Thomas Tegg" but are copies or restrikes from the plates of the original editions.
