Price: US$425.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Frederick Warne, 1906. First U.S. Edition, later state, with "12 E. 33rd Street" as publisher's address on title page. [CF1, illustrations]. 24mo, 81 pp. Gray/brown cloth, silver imprint, cover illustration, illustrated endpapers. Very Good. Front hinge just starting to get tender, but still sturdy. Corners and spine ends bumped, causing roughening at spine ends (see scans). Small amount of a child's light pencil scribble on ffep and two internal pages. Scarce printing of the first American edition - which is itself apparently rarer than the UK first - of Beatrix Potter's memorable The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, in which Mr. Jeremy, a bullfrog, narrowly escapes becoming dinner for a fish - while fishing himself. No more deeply meaningful than that, but do we want it to be ? Full of some of Potter's most beautiful full-color illustrations, magical and nostalgic; perhaps exceeding those in her other works, even, yes, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. See scans. L48

Beatrix Potter. A Fierce Bad Rabbit. Frederick Warne, London, 1906.

Price: US$1083.74 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: 1st Issue 1st Print A Fierce Bad Rabbit Beatrix Potter F. Warne 1906 It is a simple tale of what befalls a rude little rabbit that doesn't say'please' before he takes something that belongs to someone else. Panorama/Concertina edition published by F. Warne in 1906 The correct 1st issue with 'London' listed before 'New York' on the back panel. With just 10,000 copies printed, this title in this wallet format is one of the rarest Beatrix Potter books (Most titles were 20,000 copies in the first print) A lovely example that has been well used over time and has the usual wear we expect to find on her books , The tab and catch are still fairly firmly attached, albeit with a little creasing and rubbing. and the silvering is almost gone. Original cloth boards are stained and faded with light marks. The joints are holding well, with just a little splitting on the inside of the book, some minor wear to the concertina folds and the usual vertical creasing to a few of the story/illustration panels as is often the case withe delicate concertina folding books . Potter, Beatrix. THE STORY OF MISS MOPPET. Frederick Warne and Co, London and New York, 1906.

Price: US$1250.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First edition, second issue of a timeless tale of kitten and mouse, one of only two Beatrix Potter titles published in wallet binding form. Frederick Warne and Co. intended to publish three new Beatrix Potter titles in special wallet bindings for the Christmas season of 1906, but only two made it to the press, one of which is MISS MOPPET. Like many innovative marketing pushes, the accordion-fold format of the wallet bindings came with unforseen challenges: Potter recalled in later correspondence how "the shops sensibly refused to stock them because they got unrolled, and so bad to fold up again" (Linder, 183). An interesting publishing experiment with a children's classic. 4.5'' x 3.5''. Original green cloth wallet binding with color pictorial center panel and blue lettering, with silver accent. With 14 color illustrations. [28] pages with green borders, printed one side only, bound accordion-style and backed with light green cloth. Binding with some wear to corners and rear joint of flap, spot of soil to rear; scuffing to silver accent. Binding hinges with minor cracking, light wear to hinges of leaves; small scuff to second illustration. Clean and bright.

Potter, Beatrix. THE TALE OF MR. JEREMY FISHER. Frederick Warne and Co, London and New York, 1906.

Price: US$2000.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First edition, rare deluxe issue, of this charming story about a humanized frog's efforts to catch fish for a dinner party. Much like her iconic PETER RABBIT, MR. JEREMY FISHER began as a story letter from Beatrix Potter to the child of a friend. After PETER's publication, Potter speculated that she "could make something out of" MR. JEREMY as well (Linder). When her publisher questioned the accuracy of her frog illustrations, she "brought the live Jeremy to the office in a jam jar" to back up her stylistic choices (Linder). The deluxe binding of this copy is not listed in Jane Quinby's bibliography of Potter's works. 5.5'' x 4''. Original blue cloth binding with gilt lettering and embellishment, and color pictorial paste-on. All edges gilt. Endpapers with illustrations of other Beatrix Potter animal characters including PETER RABBIT. Illustrated in color. 86 pages. Hinges expertly repaired. Gift inscription to front flyleaf dated "New Year's Day 1907." Binding with some scuffing to boards, toning to edges and spine. Leaves with occasional soiling and wear to margins; hinges repaired. Bright.

Potter, Beatrix. The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher. London: Frederick Warne & Co., 1906.

Price: US$3000.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: First edition. 16mo. With a color frontispiece and 26 color plates by Beatrix Potter. Publisher's red paper-covered boards with illustrated circular paper onlay to front board, lettered in white. An excellent copy with a touch of wear to the upper spine and some very mild rubbing to the extremities, else fine; in the extremely scarce printed glassine dust jacket with some chipping and loss to the spine and at folds, otherwise a nice example. The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher is a children's book by Beatrix Potter about a frog who endeavors to fish for minnows, so he can host a dinner party for his friends. Though he goes to his usual spot, Jeremy encounters a host of obstacles, including a rat hiding nearby, a stickleback fish who pricks his fingers, and a trout who nearly eats him. Notably, the book features Potter's detailed and charming botanical illustrations, which were inspired by those of the noted naturalist illustrator Randolph Caldecott.
