Description: Particularly good-looking exemplar of an unusual artistic homage to some fine writing (or is it the other way around?). Either way, 20 quite arresting drawings by Hubert Davis. Bound in folio format, measuring 14 1/2" tall x 11" wide in the original publisher's black cloth over boards, augmented with silver and gold, gilt lettering to front cover, stiff plastic over-wrapper. Midnight black endpapers front and rear. Housed in original publisher's slip-case in Very Good condition, just scuffed a bit at tips, else nearly Near Fine. Typography by Paul J. Wienes in a stated Limited Edition on heavy, lovely hand-made paper, this being copy 153 of 525, and then signed there with calligraphic flourish by Hubert Davis at Colophon opposite title page. Foreword by Theodore Dreiser, author of An American Tragedy, Sister Carrie and other classics in American literature of the first half of the 20th century. Signed by him at a second Colophon. He notes that three things "arrest" him about Davis's artistic commentaries on Clyde Griffiths and his family life cycle. He contributes also commentaries on Davis's illustrations opposite each one.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
