Description: 1923. First Edition. 307 pages. No dust jacket. Black cloth with gilt lettering. Illustrated plate adhered to front free endpaper. Rough-cut pages. Light thumb marking, foxing and moderate tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters, slightly exposing netting. Binding remains firm with all pages attached. Minor creasing to hinges. Faint pencil marks to front endpaper and rear pastedown. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild scuffing overall. Spine has visible tanning with soft splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a very slight forward lean.

First edition. Bullett's first collection of short fiction includes two supernatural horror stories, "The Street of the Eye" and "Dearth's Farm," the latter being his most reprinted tale, as well as "The Enchanted Moment," the germ for MR. GODLY BESIDE HIMSELF (1924). Bleiler (1983) observes that Bullett was "highly regarded during the 1930s, but [is] now undeservedly forgotten," and states that "Dearth's Farm" is excellent.
