Front hinge just starting (seems to be common with this title) but the back hinge is intact. Bottom corners very gently bumped. Otherwise a very clean copy and quite bright with no previous ownership inscriptions. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall

Some rubbing, otherwise excellent condition. 340 pages with 47 lovely illustrations by the author, complete. Howard Pyle (1853-1911) was an influential author and illustrator, chiefly of books for young people. He was also the founder of the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art, whose students included N. C. Wyeth. This book is inscribed on the front fly leaf, "To Elizabeth Gouverneur Morris Ramsey from her friend, the author. Xmas, 1907. Howard Pyle" accompanied by a pen drawing of a lady. Elizabeth Ramsey, 13 years old at the time, was the daughter of prominent civil engineer William G. Ramsey, chief engineer for the du Pont & de Nemours Company.
