Illustrations and initials designed and engraved by Robert Ashwin Maynard, hand coloured at Press. Green and gilt press device on title. Fol., ix, 73pp., original quarter calf backed in patterned paper, spine lettered in gilt, printed in black on Japanese vellum. In brown slip case. Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Gregynog Press. Spine darkened, very slight foxing to decorated paper boards, but still a handsome copy. Ownership signature of T. Gwynn Jones on ffe., the Welsh poet, professor, and translator whose important scholarship on Welsh literature and folklore had a significant influence on Robert Graves; his Detholiad o Ganiadau was published by the Gregynog Press in 1926. The magnificent illuminated initials vary in colour and design. One of the most beautiful Gregynog Books.

A cycle of tales from the celebrated medieval Islamic Romance of Salame Abu Zeyd. TE Lawrence was offerd £20,000 by Edward Garnett to write the introduction, but declined! Limited to an edition of 275 copies, this is one of the 25 Special Bindings - Full green unpolished levant morocco, plain apart from a gilt rule frame and spine titling and blind ties to the spine bands, hand coloured at Gregynog, light blue headbands, turn-ins tooled in gilt with double rule fillet. Signed in gilt on turn-in of lower cover - Gregynog Press Bindery George Fisher. A little rubbed to corners, spine and edges faded, joints straining. Internally NO inscriptions, (ix), 73 pp, [1].
