With chapters on moose, caribou, wapiti and deer plus wild turkey, grouse, prairie chicken, woodcock, snipe, passenger pigeon and various waterfowl species. Fishing for trout, pike, muskellunge, black bass and salmon. "With a good quantity od sporting content in the section on salmon and trout, including 5 pages of data on salmon taken with the fly and three rods in the Godbout River in June and July, 1862 and 1863; and a list of recommended trout flies in addition to good accounts of fly fishing." (Heller #542) A bit of wear to the corners, light foxing mainly to the rectos of the color plates, hinges intact, bookplate of sportsman Windsor Holden White affixed to blank endpaper. A quite acceptable copy of an important North American sporting title.

Interesting topics include: the decrease of carnivores such as black bears; the variety of hares in North America and how to tell them from rabbits; moose compared to elk; caribou compared to reindeer; eagles and hawks, passenger pigeons; the extraordinary quantity of wild fowl; fisheries of Canada, etc. Misspelling of "Mississauga" in endpiece on page 164. Very good condition, a bright, clean copy.
