Description: The first US edition of this novel by notable author William Golding. The first US edition, first printing of this novel by William Golding, preceded by the Faber and Faber UK edition published in the same year. The author ofLord of the Flies proposes a dark portrait of a man's obsessed will, and an evocation of the very feel and texture of the building which the will created against God's wishes. Confirming his status as a great writer, The Spire is a highly imaginative and original story, utilising stream of consciousness with an increasingly unreliable narrator.William Golding was the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1983 and listed as one of the fifty greatest British writers since 1945 by The Times. He is best known for his novels Lord of the FliesandRites of Passage, for which he won the Booker Prize in 1980.With the price-clipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The dust wrapper is price clipped and sound with some shelf wear and minor chipping to the head of the spine and front wrap, only a faint sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Externally very smart, with only very light sheflwear. The dustwrapper has some very light markings and some rubbing. There is a small closed tear which has been repaired to front wrap. Internally, the book is firmly bound and the pages are bright and clean throughout. Near Fine
