The Soul of a Bishop tells the story of a spiritual crisis that leads Edward Scrope, Lord Bishop of Princhester, to give up his diocese in England's industrial heartland and leave the Anglican Church. The Soul of a Bishop is a novelistic treatment of themes Wells developed in another book published the same year, God the Invisible King. In that volume, which was widely discussed at the time, as in The Soul of a Bishop, Wells rejects the theological doctrine of the Trinity that he attributed to the Council of Nicaea (the novel opens with Scrope dreaming about the Council of Nicaea). Description: 7.5" by 5" Concerning the spiritual crisis of Edward Scrope, Lord Bishop of Princhester, brought about about by the First World War, the book is reflective of Wells' own short-lived religious conversion at the time. In cloth binding. EXternallyu sound, there is some wear to the boards, backstrip, joints and extremities, as well as markings to the boards. The gilt has faded on backstrip and the hinges are somewhat tender. Internally the pages are generally firmly bound although strained in places are spotted throughout. The text remains clear. Good
