Description: A scarce first edition collection of sonnets by William Wordsworth, in a full calf binding. A scarce first edition. In full calf binding with gilt detail to the spine. The sonnets of William Wordsworth, collected in one volume. With additional notes to the rear of the book. Including twelve new pieces which were composed while the sheets were going through the press. William Wordsworth was the British Poet Laureate from 1843 until his death, in 1850. He was a forerunner for the Romantic Age in English literature, and is well known for his work, 'Lyrical Ballads' which was jointly published with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. With the previous owner's gift inscription to the front blank, dated 1845 and a bookseller's label for 'John Ollivier', to the front paste-down. In full calf binding. Externally, smart with some rubbing to the extremities. Some shelf wear to the boards and spine. Marks to the boards. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. A few light handling marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Small offsetting from the bookseller's label transferred to the upper front free endpaper. Hinges are starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean with just the odd small handling mark. Spotting towards the front and rear of the book. Contemporary ink inscription, dated 1845 to the front blank. Very Good
