Description: Three of Henry Longfellow's most popular poems, here bound smartly together in a half calf binding, two of the poems being first editions. Three volumes in one. 'The Song of Hiawatha', published in 1855. This work is a later issue of the first edition, not having the issue point of 'dove' instead of 'dived' on page ninety-six line seven. This is an epic poem featuring American Indian characters, looking at the fictional adventures of an Ojibwe warrior, Hiawatha, and his tragic love for Minnehaha. 'The Courtship of Miles Standish', published in 1858. This work is a first edition, has a three page preface, not found in later American edition, no frontispiece, and a smaller pagination which was later increased. This is a narrative poem about the Plymouth Colony, established by the Mayflower pilgrims. The poem focuses on a love triangle among tree of the pilgrims, Miles Standish, Priscilla Mullens, and John Alden. Longfellow claimed that the story is true, though it is undetermined whether it is. 'Tales of a Wayside Inn', published in 1864. This poem depicts a group of people at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury in Massachusetts. In the poem, each person tells a story in the form of a poem. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet, known for being one of the 'Fireside Poets' from New England. He wrote many lyrical poems, as well as poems based in mythology and legend. Longfellow was one of the most popular American poets of his time. In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, with some loss of leather to the spine, joints, and extremities. A little rubbing to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with only the odd scattered spot. Very Good
