Description: 1900. 391 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with gilt lettering. Pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, with moderate foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards have been heavily rub worn with heavy shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a heavily frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Noticeable damage to foot of spine. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Description: First U.K. edition (simultaneous with the U.S. edition), later printing within the first 3000 (Oct 1900 Advertisement). Early collection of novellas from Henry James (see pictures for list of titles). Original red cloth over boards with gilded lettering and frames on front and spine Including "A Catalogue of Books and Annuncements of Methuen and Company Publishers," from October 1900 (47 pages). Corners just scuffed and small bump to head and tail of spine, otherwise fine. Rough cut lower edge. The interior is clean and clear. History of ownership: bookplate from John Quinn, and early 20th century book collector from Ohio. Additionally, from the private library of Maurice Sendak with laid in paper documenting its sale.
