Shelf wear to the bottom edges of the book and bumping to the head and to the healed spine. On the bottom edge of the paper, the results of insect activity can be seen. Browning and foxing to the paper edges. The cloth has been somewhat rubbed and faded, particularly on the spine. Front panel is somewhat bowed. Original bookseller's sticker on the right-hand corner of the front paste down. Some results of insect activity can be seen to the end papers. Offset caning has occurred to front and back end papers and foxing as well. Some foxing throughout the book has occurred as well. In this book ".relates the bizarre adventures of Manuel's barons after his death, and the growth of the sentimental, women-fostered and wholly untrue legend of Manual the Redeemer as a quasi-Christian saviour and saint.". This copy has a one inch split to the paste down of the rear hinge and an occasional spot or speck of foxing. The back plate has dulled in tone and there is slight wear to the corners.
