Description: 183 pages, with bibliography of Thomas's works up to 1946. Introduction by John L. Sweeney. Frontispiece from portrait by Augustus John. Forty-seven poems, six stories, two of which are from "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog". 8vo, green cloth with black inset for faded title lettering on spine, red topstain, boards soiled, a bit splotched, and sunned, especially the spine; corners worn and/or bumped, edges and end-papers age-tanned, darker tan stains on p. xxii-xxiii (from newspaper clipping laid in) and p. 96 at bottom corner and reaching through to a couple more pages (coffee stain), foxing to frontispiece plate and adjacent pages, sticker from the Grolier Book Shop affixed to ffep. Name of former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff and date Feb. 1948 written on front pastedown, his underscoring and/or marginalia on approximately 20 pages. Endpapers are quite tanned (as usual), with offset tanning on half-title page and final text leaf (as usual), rear cover of first-issue binding has a one-inch (faint) damp stain, else a very good copy, with the binding bright, text otherwise fresh and clean, in good, first issue dust jacket (with front panel stating "Lowry" at lower corner, and with correct publisher's address "500 Fifth Ave." on rear panel). The dust jacket has moderate fading and wear on spine, small chip at crown (slightly touching printed lettering), front panel is faded, with wear and few small chips at extremities (along fore-edge and also along edge of spine), rear panel has a few small chips, with one-inch, nicked tear, and few spots of light dampstaining (visible on unprinted verso).

Bound in publisher's rose cloth with gilt spine letters blocked in black. Dust jacket with earlier Fifth Avenue address and with "Lowry" on the bottom corner of the front panel. It is assumed, though not certain that this would be the first issue of the dust jacket, and that the first issue cloth is green. Very Good with fading to spine, trivial foxing to endsheets.
