An occult novel, with clear practical rituals, about a lonely estate agent who meets a spiritual adept and is drawn into an ancient cult. Fortune states in the introduction, "If one wishes to write a book that is not cut according to any of the standard patterns, it appears to be necessary to be one's own publisher; therefore this book has not got the imprint of any publishing house to lend it dignity, but must stand upon its own feet as a literary Melchizedek." Dion Fortune was the pseudonym of Violet Mary Firth. 'The Sea Priestess' is her fourth novel and is about 'Wilfred Maxwell, a man living with his mother and sister who learns to commune with the Moon after an asthma attack. He meets with Le Fay Morgan, a spiritual adept, and together they enter an obsessive (on Wilfred's part) but platonic relationship while establishing a temple to the sea gods' {Richardson, Alan - Priestess: The Life and Magic of Dion Fortune (new and revised ed.(2007)}. An exceptional copy and extremely scarce as such with the wrapper. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
